INTERNATIONAL WORKSHOP ON GEOPARKS AND MINERAL RESOURCES 2026 (IWMR 2026)
On 20 March 2026, VNUHCM–University of Science (HCMUS) hosted the International Workshop on “Geoparks and Mineral Resources 2026” (IWMR 2026), convening a distinguished assembly of scientists, policymakers, and academic partners from across the globe.
The event welcomed the HCMUS Presidential Board; leadership from various University offices and faculties; along with staff, doctoral candidates, and interested students; leadership from the Lam Dong Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism; and international delegates from the National Taipei University of Technology (NTUT), Yehliu Geopark, and the Taiwan Marble & Stone Association (TMA).
IWMR 2026 centred upon two primary thematic pillars: Geo-heritage and Sustainable Development, and Mineral Resources and Sustainable Development. Presenters offered multifaceted perspectives, ranging from the management of geoparks and heritage conservation to advanced research in geology, mineralogy, and geothermal energy.
A significant highlight of the programme involved the signing of Memoranda of Understanding (MoU) between the Faculty of Geology, Yehliu Geopark, and TMA. These agreements seek to broaden collaborative efforts in education, research, and field internships, while fostering sustainable solutions for resource extraction and conservation.
This workshop serves to strengthen international academic networks and reaffirms the vital role of geological sciences in addressing contemporary challenges regarding sustainability.
Furthermore, IWMR 2026 provided crucial insights into balancing resource utilisation with environmental preservation to ensure a sustainable future.
